If selected for this position, you will perform the following duties:- Develop and implement procedures and practices which enable the facility to meet the requirements in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, to ensure accreditation by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International (AAALAC).
- Identify program objectives and develop husbandry procedures for each species of animal maintained in the facility.
- Analyze and evaluate research project requirements for the housing of laboratory animals by species and strain, and allocate facility manpower to meet expected research demands.
- Manage automated animal information systems and data at the facility level.
- Communicate and interact effectively with scientists, veterinarians, supervisors, peers, and other staff members.
Examples of qualifying experience include: Evaluating husbandry practices, and modifying or establishing new procedures as required to maintain high standards of animal care; evaluating animal welfare laws and/or policies to ensure program compliance; developing guidelines or Standard Operating Procedures covering the administrative aspects of animal husbandry operations for an organization.
