Health Communication Specialist (Contract, Remote)

Stribe is a public health communications agency. We build campaigns that help people make healthier decisions — for clients including the Department of Veterans Affairs, SAMHSA, USDA, and state and community behavioral health agencies. Our work has covered suicide prevention, substance use, whole health, and vaccine confidence.

We're looking for a Health Communication Specialist with hands-on public health experience to support federal public health communication work.

What you'll do

• Translate public health science into plain-language messages and materials for high-risk audiences (older adults, parents of young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals, healthcare providers)
• Develop and refine content for fact sheets, videos, social media, and paid campaigns in coordination with designers, writers, and researchers
• Apply findings from message testing, focus groups, and surveys to strengthen materials
• Support rapid-response messaging during outbreaks and emerging public health events
• Ensure materials meet federal clearance standards, Plain Writing Act requirements, and Section 508 accessibility
• Participate in weekly client meetings and contribute to work plans and monthly reporting

What we're looking for

• Direct experience supporting CDC communication work as a contractor or federal employee — this is required
• 3+ years in health communication, health promotion, or risk communication
• Working knowledge of federal clearance processes and plain-language standards
• Strong writing with the ability to adapt tone for consumer and clinical audiences
• Comfortable in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift with public health events

Nice to have

• Degree in public health, health communication, or related field (MPH a plus)
• Experience with infectious disease or environmental health topics
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• Familiarity with IRB, PRA, or OMB clearance for data collection
• Section 508 remediation skills
