Job Description

We're seeking an energetic, well-read person with library training and computer programming experience to be part of a team promoting and helping libraries across the United States. Work is fully remote. Position is full-time. Hours are variable, based on production schedule and demand.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, oversee, and adjust software and systems collecting and distributing online information to libraries and library patrons
  • Assist in the obtaining, reviewing and editing of bibliographic data
  • Handle diverse inquiries from libraries and patrons and create solutions to address their needs
  • Help maintain and expand organizational knowledge resources
  • Investigate and solve issues entailing bibliographic and operational matters
  • Test, evaluate and contribute to new features
  • Possibly handle a modest amount of invoicing

Requirements

  • Deep commitment to non-profit values and service to community
  • Master's degree in Library Science or related field with strong academic success
  • Experience in computer programming and SQL databases
  • Experience with library cataloging software and MARC records
  • Broad experience with literature, books, authors, etc.
  • Familiarity with computers and popular software such as Microsoft Office
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn complex information and improve quality continuously
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public and other staff
  • Somewhat flexible hours

Desirable

  • Experience in newsletter, book, or web publishing
  • Experience in library promotion using newsletters, social media, etc.

Interactive Sciences is a 45-year-old well-funded 501(c)3 non-profit public-benefit organization. Here at Interactive Sciences, we believe it’s vital to provide everyone with resources for life-long learning, critical thinking, general knowledge, and enjoyment. To this end, we started the Wowbrary project to enrich people's lives with all the wonderful resources available through their local public libraries. We now work with over 750 mostly public library systems covering about one in five people in the U.S. and we’ve mailed out over half a billion newsletters.

Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
